A fragrance that disappears after a few hours isn't always the perfume's fault. How you apply and preserve it makes a big difference. Here are some simple tips that make a difference, especially with oriental fragrances.
Start with hydrated skin
Fragrance lasts longer on hydrated skin than on dry skin. The best approach: apply an unscented, neutral cream just before applying your fragrance. The ideal time is often right after a shower, when your skin is still slightly damp.
Target your pulse points
Body heat helps the fragrance diffuse. Focus on areas where the skin is warmer: the inside of the wrists, the neck, behind the ears, and the inner elbows. Two or three sprays are generally enough, especially with an oriental fragrance that already has a strong presence.
Don't rub
It's a very common habit: rubbing your wrists together after spraying. It's best to avoid it, as friction heats the skin and accelerates the evaporation of the top notes. Simply let the fragrance dry on its own.
Think about your clothes
Fabrics often hold fragrance longer than skin. A light spray on a scarf or jacket allows you to enjoy your fragrance all day. Spray from a good distance and avoid delicate or light fabrics, which can become stained.
Spray from the right distance
Hold the bottle about fifteen centimeters away from your skin. Too close, and the fragrance concentrates on a single spot. Too far, and some of it is lost in the air.
Store your bottles properly
Light, heat, and humidity damage fragrance over time. Store your bottles in a cool, dark place, such as a drawer or cabinet, and avoid the bathroom. Always keep them tightly closed.
Choose the right concentration
Finally, concentration matters. A perfume extract generally contains more fragrance oils than an eau de parfum and therefore often lasts longer. To better understand the difference, read our article Perfume extract or eau de parfum: which one to choose?
